NHS Choices Video Blog: Hay Fever

Hay fever is a very common condition affecting up to 3 million people in the UK. It is caused by an allergic response to pollen and can affect your eyes, nose and throat and in some cases make you feel generally tired and unwell.

Treatment for hay fever can be very effective and is most effective for sufferers when used regularly and started before symptoms occur with the pollen season which runs from April (tree) to late summer (grass).

Your local pharmacy can support you in choosing the best treatment for your symptoms and the majority of hay fever medicines can be obtained from your pharmacy without the need for a prescription. If this doesn’t work then you can discuss other options with your doctors surgery.
